Magic Tricks Revealed: How Can David Copperfield Fly on the Stage?

Bookmark and Share

I think many of us have seen this magic before. As usual, watch the performance first.

I have tried to search how David Copperfield can fly in front of the audiance and yet they did not notice any tricks hidden. What I can guess is, definitely he uses some kind of invisible strings or ropes, and there should have some kind of mechanical structure that can hang him up and down, and move him forward and backward. I guess the structure would be quite expensive to build. His posture is very perfect that makes people feel that he is as if really flying. Of course, he has done a lot of practices before performing it on the stage.

I got a few sources with different explanation. I think this source makes more sense and fits with what I am thinking of. I would like to share here. Do comment if any. :)

Criss Angel Magic Tricks Revealed: How to Walk Through Glass Window

Bookmark and Share

Below is a magic performance by Criss Angel, that is walking through a solid glass window.

Here is the explanation of the walking through the glass window trick. I think other similiar tricks like putting arm through a glass window into a closed cabinet and touch or grab something out from the closet are using the same concept.

Enjoy the trick!

Criss Angel Magic Revealed: How to walk through a Closed Door

Bookmark and Share

As usual, watch the magic performance first.

I was also fascinated when watching the performance, and tried to guess how he did it.

Below is my explanation based on what I thought (might not be 100% axactly same, but the ghees is still there). The magic performance can be divided into 3 parts: pinching the index finger through the glass, pinching his arm and leg through the solid door, and walk through the "firmly closed" door.

The first trick is pretty similiar with the trick that I have explained in my previous post. The glass is not static. There is a small hole hidden and the glass can be slid so that the hole is placed at the back of the small piece of newspaper. The magician just need to put his finger through the hole of the glass then pinch through the newspaper.

For the second and third trick, we should first study the structure of the door first.
First, do you notice that there is a bar lying horizontally at the middle of the door? Have you wondered why he used this kind of door and not a normal door with a small knob?
The reason is because the door is actually cut into half. The bar is just finely placed to cover up the gap between the halves of the door.

Besides, there is not only 1 piece of door, in fact 2 pieces. 1 piece is the normal door, the 2nd piece there is a hole for both upper and lower part of the door.

First, the magician enters the room and close the normal upper and lower doors together with the horizontal bar, makes it feel like the door is actually 1 solid piece. When the newspaper covers up the bottom, the normal bottom part of the door is opened, and the another bottom door with hole is closed from the other side. Then the magician can easily show out his leg by putting it through the hole. Similiar procedure is done for the upper part of the door, where he can show out his arm as if moving through the solid door.

At the end of the magic, the whole door is covered with a blanket. Ath this moment he quickly opens the doors with hole, close the upper part with normal door, passing through the door from the bottom part, then close it with normal door. And finally he apears outside of the room!

That is how he did the tricks!

David Blaine Magic Tricks Revealed: How to Turn A Cup of Cofee into Coins

Bookmark and Share

Here is another impressive magic trick yet very simple to do. Watch the performance first.

Now here is the explanation.

If you look back the first video, you can see that the old man already holding that "specially made" cup of coffee before the magician touched it. I am wondering, is it the crew gave him the cup first then immediately starts the performance before the old man realised the cup is unusual, or the old man actually already know the trick and just acting there. For what I know, among many so called street magic show, a lot of the audiance are actually acting. They are paid to be there. They are not strangers on the steet.

Amazing? There is always a logical explanation behind a magic trick.

David Blaine Magic Tricks Revealed: How to Change A Card Quickly

Bookmark and Share

This is one of the simple card trick performed by David Blaine.
Watch the performance first:

The sequence:
First, fan out the deck to let audiance see the deck is mixed up and nothing tricky hidden within the cards.
second, he shows the front edge of the cards to the audiance and "sweep" through the cards quickly while asking you to quickly pick a card and memorize it.
third, repeat second step again as it was done too fast. You have second chance to grab a card and memorize.
Finally, he takes up one random card, pluck the card and the card turned into the one that you memorized perviously.

Below is an explanation how to change the card quickly.

Now, you may have one question. How can he make sure that you must choose spade of queen?
The trick is on the third step. Before he "sweep" the deck of card, he makes a break with his little finger at that card which you can't see it. When the spade of queen reached while he is sweeping, he stop there awhile before continuing "sweeping" the deck. Do you notice that u actually cannot see any other cards clearly while he is sweeping but only on the spade of queen? That is the reason!

Note: Break is a trick of card magic, which you silently use your little finger to bookmark the card that you want without being observed by the audiance.

Magic Tricks Revealed: How to Transform an Empty Cola Can into a Brand New Can

Bookmark and Share

I think you should have watched this kind of magic trick probably from street magic show on television. The magician simply take up a "crunched" empty cola can from trash bin and then transform it into a fully filled and unopenned can. In fact, it is actually not really fully filled. Here is the explanation.

Now you know how it is done. When performing a magic trick you must be creative in order to impress and entertain your audiance.

This is how a famous Taiwanese Magician, Lu Chen perform this trick on stage. Note that most probably the emcees also co-operate with him to complete the trick. He silently changed the empty can when the emcees talking loudly about that glass of cola in order to distract you from focusing on the empty can.

Experiment it yourself. :)

Magic Article: Card Magic Tricks - Tips for New Magicians

Bookmark and Share

Author: Carine Joseph

Card magic is one of the common and easiest magic tricks used by magicians in any magic show in India. There are a lot of card magic tricks available approx thousand of card tricks which are really amazes to watch. Card tricks are valuable tricks which are ever remembered by audience; also depend upon the magician how beautifully he performs that trick which makes that unforgettable card magic trick. Here you can find some tips of magic card trick simulation.

Cards magic is a tricky game and must be perform by cleverly otherwise if the trick disclosed to the audience then there is no craze in audience of that trick. The only thing which makes any card trick magic is the rhythm of magician and routine of performing that trick. Most of the magicians perform their trick in front of mirror before going to perform on stage and calculate the speed of movements of their hands while performing the trick. They also concentrate on hiding the things which make it a great card magic trick. Practice of the magic trick can make show unforgotten in audience and while watching the show they will entertain other magic tricks.

As we know there are thousand of magic tricks; for a successful magic tricks it is very necessary to choose uncommon card tricks because sometimes magicians perform common magic card tricks in their magic show which make their audience bored. Before going to perform trick a magician must have to prepare mentally for that magic and learn that magic step by step, eye contacts, hand movements and spoken sentences make it perfect.

A magic show become very tough when there is discriminating audience in front of magicians. So it is very important to disturb their attention by words and activity in that rhythm performs magic cleverly. Most of the experienced magicians do the same trick and make their show successful. So it’s necessary for new magicians to keep these tips in mind while going to a magic show.

You have to turn the Magic Trick into a Magical Effect. Make your audience believe that you just did the impossible – however simple you know the trick to be, the effect on your audience is what matters. They have to believe that you just produced a card out of thin air, made a coin enter a sealed can of Coke, restored a torn up newspaper – whatever the trick – if your audience don’t believe that you actually did it, you have failed.

One of the best ways is to weave a story around the magic trick. I once saw a famous magician slide a knot off a piece of rope and make it disappear. Very slick. He picked up the rope, tied a knot and then ran his hand down the length of the rope and the knot had vanished. 5 seconds in the middle of an hour long stage show. I forgot about the trick until some years later when a close-up performer did the same trick for me. He took 5 minutes over it; told a story about Harry Potter walking along a river bank and meeting an old sailor who challenged him to a knot tying contest … the effect was somewhat embellished but basically the same trick, and I remembered it – use it myself, now!

The point is; make it interesting rather than clever; better yet, make it amusing if you can. The public know that there is no such thing as Magic (well, OK – MOST of them know it … there are a few odd-balls out there!) and so they realise, at the back of their minds, that we are fooling them. No one likes to be fooled but they will forgive you if you amuse them, entertain them, at the same time.

You don’t have to be Tommy Cooper; it would not be a good thing if the entire Magic profession suddenly turned into comedians! Lighten your act; throw in a few jokes at appropriate points, perform some comical effects amid the more ‘serious’ ones. Above all, remember that you are an entertainer; try not to make your act a showcase for your own cleverness. Entertain and amuse your audience and they will want more. Prove to them how clever you are and they will clap but not care if they don’t see you again.

The Magic Trick is just the method. The Magical Effect is the performance of that method in an entertaining and convincing way. If you ‘do magic tricks’, you are a technician; perform Magical Effects and you are a Magician.

If you are amazed and do not wish to know how he can perform the trick, please stop here. I am going to expose the trick hidden behind to you.

Firstly, you may think that the video is taken in one shot. The action is done in one shot too. There should have no editing of the video. The audiance on the scene are real. Their facial expression are real too. Isnt it? Think again! If you watch closely and pay attention on the details of the video, you may spot out the tricks.

Below is the mismatch found in the video, which can explain the video has been edited and they are acting, including the so called audiance on the scene. The whole process is like making a film.
