Magic Tricks Revealed: How Can David Copperfield Fly on the Stage?

Bookmark and Share

I think many of us have seen this magic before. As usual, watch the performance first.

I have tried to search how David Copperfield can fly in front of the audiance and yet they did not notice any tricks hidden. What I can guess is, definitely he uses some kind of invisible strings or ropes, and there should have some kind of mechanical structure that can hang him up and down, and move him forward and backward. I guess the structure would be quite expensive to build. His posture is very perfect that makes people feel that he is as if really flying. Of course, he has done a lot of practices before performing it on the stage.

I got a few sources with different explanation. I think this source makes more sense and fits with what I am thinking of. I would like to share here. Do comment if any. :)

Criss Angel Magic Tricks Revealed: How to Walk Through Glass Window

Bookmark and Share

Below is a magic performance by Criss Angel, that is walking through a solid glass window.

Here is the explanation of the walking through the glass window trick. I think other similiar tricks like putting arm through a glass window into a closed cabinet and touch or grab something out from the closet are using the same concept.

Enjoy the trick!

Criss Angel Magic Revealed: How to walk through a Closed Door

Bookmark and Share

As usual, watch the magic performance first.

I was also fascinated when watching the performance, and tried to guess how he did it.

Below is my explanation based on what I thought (might not be 100% axactly same, but the ghees is still there). The magic performance can be divided into 3 parts: pinching the index finger through the glass, pinching his arm and leg through the solid door, and walk through the "firmly closed" door.

The first trick is pretty similiar with the trick that I have explained in my previous post. The glass is not static. There is a small hole hidden and the glass can be slid so that the hole is placed at the back of the small piece of newspaper. The magician just need to put his finger through the hole of the glass then pinch through the newspaper.

For the second and third trick, we should first study the structure of the door first.
First, do you notice that there is a bar lying horizontally at the middle of the door? Have you wondered why he used this kind of door and not a normal door with a small knob?
The reason is because the door is actually cut into half. The bar is just finely placed to cover up the gap between the halves of the door.

Besides, there is not only 1 piece of door, in fact 2 pieces. 1 piece is the normal door, the 2nd piece there is a hole for both upper and lower part of the door.

First, the magician enters the room and close the normal upper and lower doors together with the horizontal bar, makes it feel like the door is actually 1 solid piece. When the newspaper covers up the bottom, the normal bottom part of the door is opened, and the another bottom door with hole is closed from the other side. Then the magician can easily show out his leg by putting it through the hole. Similiar procedure is done for the upper part of the door, where he can show out his arm as if moving through the solid door.

At the end of the magic, the whole door is covered with a blanket. Ath this moment he quickly opens the doors with hole, close the upper part with normal door, passing through the door from the bottom part, then close it with normal door. And finally he apears outside of the room!

That is how he did the tricks!
